The reason you miss great travel photos (it’s not your camera)

A quick rule I use while shooting on the road

You didn’t miss the shot — you hesitated

Hey there Reader 👋

Quick question — How many times have you almost taken a photo while traveling…and then the moment was gone? Or you second guess yourself and get impostor syndrome?

That used to happen to me constantly. Not because I didn’t know my camera. Not because my settings were wrong. But because I hesitated.

At some point, I realized most travel photos aren’t missed technically... they’re missed mentally.

So I started using a simple 5-second rule in my adventure photography.

If a moment catches my attention, I give myself five seconds to act.

I don't overthink it or debate if it's "worth it". I just move, shoot, adjust later.

It sounds small, but it completely changed how I photograph fast, fleeting moments on the road.

I wrote a full breakdown of how this works in a new article here.

If you’ve ever said “Danggg, I should’ve taken that shot”, this one’s for you. 📸✨

Stay adventurous,
Alexandra
